Over the past two months, we had the opportunity to welcome a local high school senior into our department as part of a 75-hour internship experience. Today, we are excited to recognize the successful completion of those hours and thank him for the time, effort, and enthusiasm he brought each day.
Throughout the internship, he gained firsthand exposure to many aspects of police work and learned about the responsibilities that come with serving the community. During his time with us, he had opportunities to observe and learn about:
•Daily patrol operations and officer responsibilities
•Dispatch and call response procedures
•Report writing and documentation
•Maine criminal and traffic law basics
•Community engagement and public service
•Vehicle equipment and officer readiness
•Investigative processes and evidence handling
•Professionalism, ethics, and teamwork in law enforcement
This internship provided a behind-the-scenes look at the work that happens every day to keep our community safe and highlighted the dedication and commitment required in this profession.
We are proud to say this was our department’s first student internship program—and we hope it is the first of many opportunities to connect students with careers in public service.
Congratulations on completing this milestone, and we wish you the best as you go to college to continue with Criminal Justice. Thank you for spending part of your senior year with us!

The CHRHS 10th grade class spent May 19th volunteering with 16 community organizations from Thomaston to Lincolnville as part of the school's first annual 10th Grade Give Back Day.

Students worked in groups at sites spanning five focus areas — food access (AIO Food Pantry, Erickson Preserve), housing (Habitat for Humanity, Second Story Builders, Landing Place), land stewardship (Coastal Mountains Land Trust, Camden Hills State Park, Georges River Land Trust), animal welfare (PAWS, Pope Memorial Humane Society), and community connection (Quarry Hill, CRES, Hope Elementary, Appleton Village School, Camden Fire & Rescue).

Students engaged in hands-on work including trail clearing, farm work, carpentry, gardening, organizing supplies, and spending time alongside younger students and older community members.

The 10th Grade Give Back Day is part of the school's commitment to using the community as a learning lab — learning through service and building relationships beyond the classroom.

Our Spanish classes brought creativity, culture, and community together through our project, “Bienvenidos al Mercado de Piñatas.”

Students designed and created their own piñatas while practicing Spanish vocabulary, communication, and cultural traditions from across the Spanish-speaking world. To make the experience even more authentic, students participated in a live marketplace where they negotiated, bought, and sold their piñatas completely in Spanish using real-life conversation skills, persuasion, and cultural expressions.

The classroom was filled with teamwork, laughter, music, and confidence as students brought language learning to life in a hands-on way. From colorful designs to speaking presentations and market negotiations, the students fully immersed themselves in the experience.

It was incredible to watch students grow more comfortable communicating in Spanish while also supporting and encouraging one another. Their creativity and enthusiasm made this project a huge success and a memorable experience for our entire school community.
