State and Regional Scholarship Opportunities for CHRHS Alumni
The following scholarships for alumni are listed with links to their websites. To ensure your applications and supporting materials arrive on time for consideration, please read and follow the directions for each application.
American Legion Scholarships -- The American Legion offers various scholarships with specific criteria for each. Application deadlines vary.
Guy Gannett Scholarship -- The Guy Gannett Scholarship is for students majoring in journalism or a field of study reasonably related, including forms of print, broadcast or electronic media. Consideration is based on excellence in academic performance, financial need, and a demonstrated interest in a career in some form of journalism. The application deadline is April 1st.
Maine Vietnam Veterans Scholarship/Lest We Forget POW/MIA/KIA Scholarship Fund -- The Maine Vietnam Veterans Scholarship Fund is for descendants of Maine veterans who served in the Vietnam theater, first priority, and children of veterans of the United States Armed Services. "Descendants" include natural or adopted children and their children. The application deadline is May 1st.
Maine Legislature Memorial Scholarship Fund -- The Maine Legislature annually recognizes one student from each county who is currently pursuing or planning to pursue education at a two- or four-year degree-granting Maine college or technical school. Awards are given to Maine resident high school seniors or full- or part-time postsecondary students accepted to or enrolled in accredited Maine colleges for graduate or undergraduate degrees. The deadline for submission is May 1st.
Maine State Golf Association Scholarship -- Candidates for the Maine State Golf Association Scholarship shall have shown an active interest in Maine golf through actions such as participating as a player, as a caddie, and/or working at a MSGA member golf shop or course. Applications are due by April 1st.
Maine State Nurses Association Scholarship -- The Maine State Nurses Association Scholarship isfor Maine residents who are attending an accredited nursing program in Maine. The application submission deadline is July 6th.
New England Employee Benefits Council Scholarship -- NEEBC's Scholarship Program was established to further the aims of the Council to advance the knowledge and education of individuals in the employee benefits field, or those aspiring to careers in employee benefits. Careers in employee benefits include but are not limited to, careers in the actuarial sciences, ERISA and legal aspects of employee benefits, careers in pension design and planning, work and family issues, and careers in corporate employee benefits design, analysis and management. Part-time or full-time undergraduate students and graduate students are eligible. Applications are due by April 1st.
Phyllis E. Ainsworth Scholarship -- The $2,000 Phyllis E. Ainsworth scholarship is awarded to an applicant who is a Maine resident, who is a current full or part-time student in an ALA accredited masters or doctoral degree program in library or information science, and who has completed at least one course and has maintained a minimum B average.
Please observe these instructions carefully when preparing your application. Applications that omit one or more of the following will not be considered. The deadline for submission is April 30th.
- Completed application form.
- A well thought out essay describing your career ambitions and their impact on libraries and library users.
- Official transcript (photocopies and computer printouts are not acceptable documentation; official transcripts can be obtained from your University or College registrar's office).
- Current resume.
- Three letters of recommendation including one from a current professor and/or a library colleague (family excluded)
Scholarships for Military Children -- Each year the Scholarships for Military Children program, supported through the military commissary system and administered by the Fisher House Foundation, awards hundreds of scholarships to qualified seniors planning to enroll in a four-year program of studies the following fall, or to college students already enrolled in a four-year program. Applications are due by February 15th.
